A post from the Past: May 27, 2008 - My History

I am transferring my blog post from Live Journal over here to Blogger. I will start with the newest first so that the last post I post will be the oldest one from LJ.  That way you can scroll down and read it in order. 2008 to 2009

May 27, 2008  First Blog post on Live Journal

mmm...my first post. I am still figuring out how this works. I am familiar with posting blogs on MySpace. But I am having problems figuring out how to insert photos. I tried for an hour and no luck. It shouldn't be this hard. I love to see lots of photos on a blog.
I will try again right now.................

This is my daughter Sierra. I lost her a year ago. She was my only daughter and I do miss her so so much. She was 23 when she died by a gunshot to her beautiful head. It's so sad. Her little daughter Peanut is living with me now. We are taking each day one at a time. Life is certainly changing for us. Here we are...

We were dressed for Halloween. On this night 10/31/06 my daughter was taking the photo. Then my daughter Sierra, Peanut and I walked around my neighborhood to trick or treat.
Sierra and I had several good times like that before she died Jan. 2007.
I miss her so. I do not understand why she was the one person out of hundreds or thousands who would die by a gunshot. We are not gun people. I never had handguns in the house ever, never in all my life. She only had that gun in her house for 3 weeks before a fight broke out between her and her boyfriend. No one is sure what happened. The police think the boyfriend is responsible. The coroner put gun shot wound to the head.  But it is the boyfriends word of what happened on that day. Peanut saw and heard the fight. She was watching from her room when the gun went off. I think her dad was blocking her view of the gun so she only knows what he told her happened. She was only 5 years old. What a horrible tragedy to have in a young girls life.

This beautiful granddaughter is living with me now. I am in a guardianship case trying to get full custody. For more than a year I have been in and out of court. I finally got Temporary custody on 10/30/2007. What a long wait.
It is not an easy road. Peanut is in therapy now. We are both grieving so much. But we are having good times. We took a trip to Idaho 2 weeks ago. My son Dustin, her uncle, got married. He lives in Idaho. Peanut and I have a goal to move to Idaho before the end of this year.

My new love is WOOL and KNITTING!!!!! more on that in the next blog.

Today and everyday, I thank God for carrying me this far in my grief journey. He has taken my burden. On days that I have a very heavy heart is usually when I have not looked at the LORD to give him praise for blessing me with my children, Peanut, a home, food, clothing, love and good friends. I have a lot to be thankful for.
Richard and Carol

Seven years ago my handsome, wonderful, hardworking husband died of cancer. I miss him so much. He never knew his grandchildren. He was my high school sweetheart. We were married 28 years. I was 45 and he was 47 when he died. I believe he is in heaven holding our daughter in his arms. God bless my family in Heaven.

So there is my first POST on Live Journal.
Yeah.....I'm glad to be here!!!!!!

June 17, 2008  Balloon release for Sierra. RIP

Tonight my granddaughter and I went to our meeting of The Compassionate Friends.
http://www.compassionatefriends.org/
(Redlands Chapter of Compassionate Friends)
http://www.redlandstcf.com/

This is a grief group for parents & siblings who have lost a child.

Tonight was the annual balloon launch in the memory of our children.

We arrived early and started making out little cards to attach to the balloons.

Ouch, sunburn.......

Then we were ready to head outside.  Legos in red case, balloons in hand.

Outside it was a beautiful night. There was a singer Naomi Slotkin and a man on the keyboard. Her voice was like an angel. She sang so beautiful and the lyrics to the songs made me cry.

Then we went on the stairs to release the Balloons. It was so beautiful. The balloons went straight up to heaven.

We watched till the balloons got smaller and smaller.

And then Naomi Slotkin with the angel voice sang on..........

Near far wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

And then they were gone.............

You Know You’re Making Progress When--

Sierra and Carol (mom)
SierraandCarolwithroses002

You Know You’re Making Progress When--
You can remember your child with a smile--
You realize the painful comments others make are made in ignorance---
You can reach out to help someone else--
You stop dreading holidays--
You can sit through a church service without crying--
You can concentrate on something besides your child--
You can find something to thank God for--
You can be alone in your house without it bothering you--
You can talk about what happened to your child without falling apart--
You no longer feel you have to go to the cemetery every day or every week--
You can tolerate the sound of a baby crying--
You don’t have to turn off the radio when his or her favorite music comes on--
You can find something to laugh about--
You can drive by the hospital or that intersection without screaming--
You no longer feel exhausted all the time--
You can appreciate a sunset, the smell of newly-mowed grass, the pattern on a butterfly’s wings--

1-11-11

I had to post today because it is 1-11-11.  Isn't that cool.  I am assuming everyone understands but it means Jan. first, 2011.  Some countries put the day first and month second. So in that case today is 11-1-11.  Still pretty cool.

The uncool thing is that this afternoon my Peanut was under the weather.
Alexis sick & Oli

She had a headache so she took a nap. Then she woke up feeling better but she had a fever. I know that she probably picked up a bug at church on Saturday evening. Well I going to keep her home tomorrow.  Poor baby.
The cat just hunkered down to sleep with her. She is in bed now and he is on her bed. But when she wants to hold him he runs all over the house.  LOL

Now I am going to show you some of my journal painting. I am having fun with it.

Here is my favorite pencil and then some sugar skulls.  The pencil is real but the skulls are my imagination.  I love Day of the Dead stuff.

Here is a painting from my imagination which is easy to see that without me saying it.
The animals are looking towards the star so I call this painting, "Waiting for Jesus".
 I did this before Christmas.

This is a little sketch I did when I was waiting in a coffee shop. I was drinking some yummy hot apple cider.  I tried photographing it in different lighting.
Pumpkin 01
How about a Pumpkin sitting on a Moleskein sketchbook?  Here she is.
Villiage & Pumpkin 03
There also is a little village on the left.  Just for fun.
I have gone back and painted the table. You can see faintly the lines I drew on the table. I guess I just forgot to take another photo.  I like it a lot with the table done.

One of my favorite Bible verses I wrote at the top. AND ALWAYS BE THANKFUL.

It was hard to capture the orange of the pumpkin. I need more practice.

I will end with a pic of Coraline. When Peanut and Oli snuggled in the big chair, Coraline curled up on the couch. She looks like she is thinking something.  What's on your mind Coraline???

We Prayed to have Good Days.....

Tonight as we were saying our bedtime prayers, little Peanut prayed that we have good days the rest of the week and no more bad days.  It made me sad.  I asked Peanut after we prayed why the last 2 days were bad?  She said because today everything she touched she dropped. She dropped her lunch on the floor and then she dropped her dinner too.  She cleaned it up but it bothered her.
Alexis' new clothes
Here Peanut is in her new school clothes. She got the shirt, skinny jeans and shoes. She put together this outfit.  We did buy shirts with pink to go with the pants and we got red pants to go with the top. But Peanut has her own sense of style.
That yellow thing sitting in the zucchini plant is my masham fiber for spinning. More on that later.
So the other bad day we had was on Monday. The majority of the day was great. We spent time together going out to lunch and school shopping.
First off we went to the bank. I usually use the ATM for my banking but Monday I needed to go inside.  They have these security doors where you open the first door, step through metal detectors and then stand in a little area and wait for the green light to go on so that you can open the second door to enter the bank.  I told Peanut that the sign taped on the door said: ONLY ONE PERSON AT A TIME.  I asked her if she wanted to go first or second. She said second.  Well Peanut has that need to be close and she will panic if she thinks that I am leaving her.  So that is why I explained the doors to her. I went in the first door and waited for the green light. It went on and then the heavy door SLOWLY eases close, but before it closes Peanut is tugging on the outside door. I waved my hand to tell her to wait. But she went into panic mode because her door would not open. The doors have magnets in them and the inside door has to be totally closed before the magnets release to let the outside door open.  Well release it did and WHAM !!! it flew open and the bottom edge of the door nearly took off Peanuts toenail.  She came barreling in and was pushing on the second door. I didn't realize that she was hurt at that minute and I was telling her to wait because the inside door would not open till the outside door was totally closed.  Well finally she could come in the bank and her flip flop was all bloody. There was blood on the floor and she was so upset. I was mad at the bank.  I had to wait in line because I wanted to tell them what their door did to Peanut. She waited patiently and then I got my turn at the tellers window. I told her what the door did.  The teller went to get bandaids and alcohol wipes. I heard her telling her supervisor that that door has metal hanging down on the bottom and other people have been hurt. She also said that it needs to be fixed. Then she told her supervisor that Peanut was bleeding and hurt. The supervisor went and got the bandaids and wipes.  She asked Peanut to come and sit down, then she went and got Peanut some candy.
I did my banking and the teller kept telling me that kids can go with an adult into the entry.  I said, "the sign says One person at a time", she said, but that means one adult at a time, you can take your kids.  I said that is not what your sign says.
So I went to help Peanut clean up all the blood on her foot. She had a cut on the toe and the toenail was broken off into the skin.  We put the bandaid on and left. I was mad at them.
So that began my day going bad with personal.  We drove to Farmer Boys for lunch. We never go there and I will never go back.  Peanut got a hotdog and fries.  I ordered a Tuna sandwich. The girl asked me if I wanted fries with that or something else. I said no fries but what is my choice?  She said fried zucchini or salad.  I said salad.  Well the total came to over $12.  I added up this in my head and it was more than the menu said. So I questioned the girl. She said it was 60 cents more to change the side.  I went back to our table and studied the receipt.  It appeared that I was charged for a dinner salad.  So then a different lady came to our table with the hotdog. I told her the problem and she said that everything is a la carte. Well I said I didn't know that and the girl made it sound like it was a combo.  So they gave me back a dollar twenty-five.  I still think I was overcharged.
So that got my goat.  On to J.C.Penneys.  We did the school shopping there.  We found some good deals.  There was almost an argument about what clothes to buy from Peanut but before we had left home, I had her write a list of what clothes she needed. We discussed what she had already and that we would not be buying those things.
Well when she went straight for the summer tops I had to walk away. She didn't freak. I think that she could see me. I went to another area to browse and I cooled down. I wanted to have fun buying new clothes.  It's suppose to be fun.  Last year was not fun.
Well I think she got the hint that I was not going to engage with her unless she stuck to our list. Well she looked at all the racks and then she came over to me with a pretty dress. It was really cute. Orange and white checks. It was kinda summery but she only has one dress that fits now so this was on our list.  I guess when I walk away she wants to please me to get back in sync. After that rough beginning everything we looked at was met with smiles and good manners.
We then browsed the shoes and decided to go to Payless because Penney's shoes were not so cool.  So off we go to the check out area of Penney's.  They have 2 checkout areas, one on each side of the entry to the store.  We chose the side with the least amount of people. We waited and waited.  There was 2 stands, only one person in front of us at each stand. And I look over to the other side and people are flying out of there. Well I though, I'm next so just stay here, be patient.  So the lady who we are waiting to check us out finishes with her customer, and turns and walks away.  Just walks away without a look to us or a word.  And here the other checker has a customer who has a truck load of clothes to checkout.  I couldn't believe it.  So I walk over to the other checkout area. I get in that line.  Mind you it has been a good 15-20 of waiting.  Well I look over and the checker who walked away is back at her station and a man moseys up and she starts checking him out.  So I go back over to that side. I get in the line, where I am still the first.  The lady with the truck load of clothes is still checking out.  So finally she motions for me to come up.  I do and she says," I had to go get more register tape".  I said, " you should have told me since I had waited a long time."  She would not speak another word to me, only to ask if I wanted to use my Penney's charge.  I was so mad.  How rude.  I mean in a grocery store if a checker is going to open a stand they will take the next in line.  She knew I had waited there and she could see me in the other line waiting.
So I left. I wanted to complain but I was worn out.
We then went to Payless Shoes. The ladies in there could not have been nicer.  I like to compliment clerks and personal when they are very nice because there are just too many who don't care.  They are rude and I'm so sick of being waited on people who treat you like crap.
Our Bad Day:
1. Bank, torn up toe
2.  Farmer Boys overcharging
3.  Penney's rude check out woman.

That night after I got Peanut in bed I just sat here sobbing and wondering why I have felt so angry. I do.  It's not just rude people but it's pushy people. I have a friend who is always pushing me to go out or be more serious about him. I am so tired of saying that we are only friends.
Then there was the news last week that my late husband's uncle died. His funeral was Saturday. He was 88 years old. He had a good life. He was a very sweet man.
I don't know why but his death really hit me. I was not close to him. Maybe it is just my sympathy for his wife.  Or maybe it is that the family is slowly dying off.  I hate being at an age that the generation above me is old and then they die.
I miss them. I miss the big family celebrations together.  It's an era coming to an end.
That is part of my anger.  I also know that I am tired of being alone. I want to be married again and I just do not have a life style that I meet men.  I am a stay at home mom to my granddaughter. I love what I do but it limits me in meeting men.

Maybe I just need to go get a dog?  I miss my dog too.
Well that is my rant.
Today I feel a lot calmer. Today I am telling myself to be a blessing to others and to be encouraging to others.  Maybe all those clerks would have been better if my energy wasn't negative.  The bank ladies were trying very hard to help. I think that they were scared of what I might do.  Who knows.

On another note. I did get some spinning done. I will let the photos tell the story.
This is from the Crown Mountain Farms fiber club. Fiber is Targhee.
I got 333 yards, 4 oz. I think it is DK weight.

Beautiful Sunday

Today was a good day.  I love good days.  After having years of bad days it is nice that life has settled down.  I am seeing small & large gifts in the things around me.
Here is one big gift in my life.   My sister Susan.  She took me with her to our high school
reunion last night.  It was really fun. We got dressed up and had a great time. Photos by Susan.
This is Carol and Susan.
Here we have Jim and Erika Mann. They were dear friends of Richard and me from High school on.  Jim was in our wedding as one of Richard's grooms men. The are wonderful people.
These girls are Susan's BFF, from left to right, Gail, Claire and Susan.
Here is today Sunday at the class reunion picnic.  I only have a couple pictures which I took.
My dear sister Susan is on the right.  Her best friend in High School is on the left, Claire. They look so good. It is hard to believe that this is their 40 year class reunion. For me it was my 37 yr. reunion. My classmates were not at this reunion but the classmates of my late husband were there and it was so good to see them.
There are a lot more people gathered under the oak trees. It even began to rain on us.

So here is another gift I found in my yard today.  For me this is a gift.
Mushrooms.  They just appeared overnight. They are really big.
It's been humid here for a couple days. I don't know what kind of mushrooms these are. I am treating them as poison just to be safe. I did flip the big one over.
I am fascinated by them. They are so beautiful.
Look at those gills. Is that what they are called? Peanut told me that the smores are in their. LOL
Another little gift....the words that Peanut uses. When we were leaving for the park she could smell the mango lotion on me. She said "Grandma I love your da-mingo."  I said, "What?"  "your da-mingo lotion."

A long time ago I was reading about how a pastor would leave a very nice bible on a low table for the kids to touch and look at.  His guest asked how he could leave such a delicate Bible down low for kids to flip though, that they might tear the pages.
The pastor said, I want the kids to go through the Bible. I want them to see it, feel comfortable with is and the blessing would be that the children would read it.

So when we were in Idaho, Peanut was sitting in the big church.  She was bored and so I let her look at my Bible.  My bible is one with the thin pages, tabs to mark the chapters, when the Bible is closed you can see gold on the pages.  So I turned to the maps. I thought that she might like to look at the pictures.
Well Peanut turned to the scripture.  She started to read the notes that I write in the margins.  Some people won't write in their bibles.  My bible is a study bible and I want to put the notes in the bible so that I can read and study them later.  To my surprise those notes were understandable to Peanut. She was turning pages and reading what I had written.  I got tears in my eyes to see that what I had written for my eyes was helping Peanut understand the scripture.  It was a huge gift that day.
I'm so glad that I didn't keep my Bible to myself like it is too precious to be touched.
This photo shows 1 Timothy 1
A couple years ago I went to a women's seminar with my sister Susan & my DIL Anne.  We went to see Kay Arthur . She was very good. During her talk she taught us how to mark and highlight our Bible.  I don't do all the marking she suggested but just enough so I can see the important things in the verses.
I think Peanut was interested in the colors but then she stopped to read the notes and maybe some of the verses too.  Just like the pastor I had read about. What a beautiful gift God let me see that day in church.
Peanut wasn't reading Revelations like above, but this is an example of what I do every Saturday night or Sunday morning as the pastor speaks to us.

Here is a parting shot of the mushroom's smores...... enjoy  (gills, with spores inside)

For tomorrow Happy Monday and Happy new week.
