A post from the past: March 18, 2009

I am transferring my blog post from Live Journal over here to Blogger. I will start with the newest first so that the last post I post will be the oldest one from LJ.  That way you can scroll down and read it in order.

Here is the BFL that I spun.  This is my first handspun ever. I am new to spinning. I started this fiber on a Kundert drop spindle.  But I am not a drop spindle kind of girl.  So I ordered a Lendrum DT complete.  I waited months and then in December it arrived.  My granddaughter spun on the wheel first while I was drafting for her.

Then I plied hers for her when she was at school.  And I knit her a hat.

Then it was my turn at the wheel and it took a while.  I was doing some knitting projects for Christmas 2008 so finally in Feb.09 I finished my spinning and March 09 finished plying.

The fiber is from Crown Mountain Farms.
Hand Dyed Blue Face Leicester.
8 ounces.
colorway: Mother Earth.
Yardage spun: 223.9 yards.

Here is the roving. I had divided it in half, then in half, over and over till I got this.  I think the drafting a big hunk of fiber is beyond me being so new.  I found that if I divided it to a small size then I could draft and spin.  It also preserved the colors better.  When I tried to spin with a big hunk of roving it was mixing the colors and making this green and brown turn to MUD.

I love how my yarn turned out.  I have 223 yards so I either want to make mitts or a hat?  What do you think would look good with this handspun yarn?
Here are the pics of my granddaughters spinning. I love how well she did. She is 7 years old.

Here she is practicing with some fiber before spinning her rainbow BFL.

Today Peanut and I were driving home from town.  While sitting at a stop light a lady in an electric wheel chair crossed the road.  Peanut asked me how she did that. I told her how it had a big battery like my car.  She was still curious. She asked why the lady needed the chair. I told her that maybe her legs don't work.  She asked why.  I was driving and I didn't know why so I said, maybe when God was making her he took her out of the oven before her legs were finished.
And then Peanut corrected me. She said that God doesn't put us in the oven,  But that God knits us.

I have read her the verse in the Bible where it says that God knit us in our mothers womb before we were born.

Psalm 139:13 (New International Version)

 13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

So after she corrected me saying that God knit us.  I said, maybe God dropped a stitch and the lady's legs were not so good.  She liked that answer. She knows from experience when I have been knitting and she bumps me, then a stitch falls off and I say "don't move, I dropped a stitch".  She knows it can be a problem.

She can say things sometimes that just make me so proud of her.

Oh, and here is her new haircut, again.  I love you Sweetie!!!

1st DAY of LE TOUR DE FLEECE

Well today June 30th is the first day of Le Tour De Fleece. Many spinners over at Ravelry will be spinning during the Le Tour de France.

I am on team Crown Mountain Farms.  I have very ambitious plans.
Klaus over at CMF helps all of us team members to have a gift of fiber.
He sent us the fiber of our choice. I wanted a nice blue so he sent me Copenhagen Blue. It is a semi-solid, the fiber is BFL.

The first fiber I am working on is CVM/Romeldale. I love this fiber. Soft and long. I prefer long fibers. The color is called Tramat.

Boy Was I WRONG

I was so wrong about May being the month to blog. That is what I said in my last post.
Problem is, I only made one post in May & June. Yes this is still June. But it's almost July.

So summer is upon us here at Casa de Carol.  We seem to be pretty busy around here.  We are swimming and going places. I am knitting a lot too.
So onward with the photos!!!

This is what I am working on right now.  It is a sock in the pattern "Sign of Four" by one of my favorite designers Knitspot aka Anne Hansen.

Yes I see the fly on the sock. I didn't see it till I uploaded the photos to my computer. Ewwww.

The garden was planted and we are already eating veggies from it.

And we are eating blueberries here in So. Calif. I think this is a special blueberry bush.

May is the Month to Blog More!!!!

I really got behind in my blogging.  Each time I thought to post a blog I would think of a million things that I needed to update like my knitting and it just seemed like too much.
So I will do a little each day to catch up.

Here is Charlie.  We have had him for a a couple months now. He had put on some weight and he is sweeter than ever.

His favorite place to sleep is on the back of the couch. He gets himself so wedged into the cushion that he almost slides down between.

Bob is 1 1/2 years old now.  He is growing and we had a fun day on our walk to the park.  It was drizzling on this day but Bob doesn't care.

He has a nice big schnooz.  I love it.  This is a hat I knit. Madeline Tosh DK.
Pattern is by Anne Hanson, Matterhorn hat.  I did a few mods to make the brim heaftier.

You can see that it was a cloudy day.  It did start to pour on us on our way home.
My house is up by those mountains.
